PERFECT RICE

PERFECT RICE
Ingredients
  1. 150g Rice
  2. 300ml stock (350ml for Wholemeal Rice)
  3. Salt as desired (we do not add salt)
Instructions
  1. Place your rice in a sieve and rinse under the cold tap for a minute
  2. Put the COLD stock into a pan
  3. Put the pan on the smallest ring (or lowest powered ring if using electric) and turn onto a medium heat
  4. As soon as the stock is beginning to boil, turn the heat down to minimum, then cover the pan
  5. Remove the lid and stir occasionally
  6. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO TURN UP THE HEAT OR ADD MORE WATER!!!
  7. Rice tastes best when it is slowly steamed and not vigorously boiled
  8. After 10 minutes test the rice (taste t few grains) the rice is cooked when all the water has been soaked up into the rice
  9. If the rice is to firm for your taste, add a splash of boiling water from the kettle (20-30ml max)
Pilau Rice
  1. add the following ingredients to the rice before cooking
  2. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  3. 1 level teaspoon turmeric
  4. 1 dessert spoon of sugar
  5. Dried fruits (Raisins or Sultanas) as desired
